Our hand-crafted yurts are modelled on original designs from Central Asia where the sturdy structures have been used for thousands of years by nomadic people. Durable waterproof canvas replaces the traditional felt outer shell to take account of Scotland’s climate, but they retain a snug and cosy feel, especially when the wood burning stove is lit. Our yurts also have windows to allow you to enjoy natural light and the beautiful surroundings.
Each yurt is individually finished, furnished and equipped to ensure your stay is comfortable and enjoyable. Yurts available for rental in 2017 include: Holly Yurt, Aspen Yurt, Rowan Yurt, Willow Yurt, Juniper Yurt and the Hazel Geodome. A further two tents will be added over the course of the season.
Please scroll down to see interior and exterior pictures below of the different yurts in their native woodland clearings.
Each yurt has:
- A wood burning stove and basket of firewood
- Comfy beds, duvets, pillows, bed linen and towels
- Table and chairs
- Two hob gas cooker/grill with pots, pans and a kettle
- Cutlery and crockery
- A lockable door
- An outdoor seating area (picnic bench or similar)
As the yurts are off-grid, the yurts are free from mains power and water supply. Instead, we provide solar/hand powered lighting units and a refillable container of fresh water. Owing to popular demand, new composting toilets are planned to be sited at proximity to the yurts furthest from the Hub, for our guests' convenience and to provide an alternative to our our other bathroom and toilet facilities at the Hub in times of high demand.
Photos/Brief Descriptions of Yurts available to Rent:
Aspen yurt (16ft in diameter) is our closest yurt to the Hub so is ideal for those who would prefer to be at proximity to the WC/shower facilities. It is spacious and airy, comfortably sleeping up to 4 people.
Rowan Yurt (also 16ft across) is a little further from the Hub than Aspen (120metres, appox), and also sleeps up to 4 guests. It has it's own picnic bench and affords an excellent level of privacy and tranquility.
Holly Yurt (15ft) is sited below the Hub so it is a short walk (uphill!) to access the WC/ Showers. However, Holly has an exceptional view over the Moray Firth and is a dedicated 'dog-free' rental unit, sleeping up to 3 adults.
Hazel Geodome (14ft) is our smallest tent, and is structurally quite different from the yurts, being a fairly modern invention! Hazel has just one double bed but has the same cooking facilties and wood burning stove as our yurts. Hazel will benefit from a new window in 2017 - so will be a brighter and more open feeling than currently depicted.
Willow Yurt was added at the start of our 2016 season. It is by far our biggest tent to date (20ft), accommodating up to five guest (1 double plus up to 3 single beds). It is the furthest yurt from the Hub, at approximately 250m.
Juniper Yurt was added at the start of 2016. Like Holly it is quite a steep walk down to this yurt, but we think it is well worth it! At almost 18ft across it feels particularly spacious and is the closest yurt to the beach path.
New for 2017! Cherry is our newest yurt, and boasts an excellent view across to Fort George and Chanonry Point. It is designed for up to 4 guests and is situated between Juniper and Holly Yurts, just below the Hub.
Please note that the photos above are illustrative and exact furnishings may differ from those pictured as we replace/ renew items over the course of the 2017 season. Thank you for your understanding.
